Urban E-Mobility Business: Model Business Case

This Model Business Case (MBC) analyses the financial viability of a hypothetical company that offers two-wheel electric vehicle (EV) rental and operates a network of smart EV battery swapping stations in urban areas in Nigeria (“the Company”). The Company procures, owns and rents out the two-wheel EVs and additional batteries daily to certified taxi and delivery drivers. It also builds and operates the battery swapping station network for the EVs. It is assumed that the swapping stations are powered by hybrid solar PV-battery systems and the national grid.

Mini Grid-Powered Rural E-Mobility Project: Model Business Case

This Model Business Case (MBC) analyses the financial feasibility of a hypothetical project deploying two-wheeled electric vehicles (EVs) for mobility in a rural community in Nigeria powered by a solar mini-grid (“the Project”). It is assumed that the project sponsor – a private EV operator – will finance, procure and maintain the EVs, and lease the EVs and additional batteries on a daily basis to certified local drivers. The EV operator is also assumed to purchase electricity from the solar mini-grid operator to power its charging station.

Nigeria Case Study: Financing Instruments for the Mini-Grid Market

This GET.transform case study illustrates Nigeria’s successful approach to establishing large-scale mini-grid programmes. One of the success factors in Nigeria is the development of strong financing instruments, on top of a series of power sector reforms and regulations in place for the development of mini-grids. Nigeria uses both performance based grants and minimum subsidy tenders, with result-based financing (RBF) instruments used under both the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) and the Rural Electrification Fund (REF), to guarantee consistency in reimbursement of developers’ costs.
